Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian women’s doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti ascended to the world’s top 5 ranking after managing to reach the semifinals in the Malaysia Open 2023 last week.

Based on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking update on Tuesday (January 17), Apriyani/Fadia climbed six spots to occupy the world number five since the two were paired last year.

Since their first appearance as a pair last year, the duo has quickly made several highlights.

In less than a year, they already stood 11th in the world ranking after winning two titles from nine tournaments they had played in 2022.

Apriyani, who made history by winning the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s doubles gold with her former partner Greysia Polii, won the top podium position with the younger partner, Fadia, in the BWF World Tour Super 750 Malaysia Open and Super 500 Singapore Open last year.

Apriyani/Fadia withdrew from the second tournament in the 2023 calendar, India Open, due to Fadia’s ankle injury that she suffered from during the semifinals of the Malaysia Open last week.

It is not clear yet as to whether the Indonesian pair will play at home in the 2023 Indonesia Masters that will be held on January 24-29.

The Chinese pair Che Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan still top the world women’s doubles ranking. They have been world number one since October 2022.
