The men’s doubles and men’s singles are the best shots for Indonesia to win the tournament trophy, with a total prize of US$900 thousand up for grabs.
“We are targeting to win two titles each from the men’s doubles and men’s singles. Hopefully, all the players can show their best performance,” Indonesia’s badminton manager, Aryono Miranat, noted in a statement received here, Monday.
Indonesia sends five pairs in the men’s doubles for the India Open 2023.
Indonesia will rely on the world No.1 players Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto to bag another title in New Delhi following their victory in the BWF World Tour Super 1000 Malaysia Open last week.

Apart from Fajar/Rian, Indonesia has other pairs, who will compete in India, including former world No.1 duo Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, and All England champions Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana.
Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Indonesia has five representatives, with two of them -- Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie -- ranked among the world top 5.
The only Indonesian representatives to withdraw for the tournament were women’s doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
The world No. 11 pair withdrew due to Fadia’s ankle injury that she suffered from during the semifinals of the Malaysia Open last week.
India Open is a tournament with Super 750 level or one level below the Malaysia Open that has a Super 1000 level, the highest level in the BWF World Tour.
After competing in India, world badminton players will head to Jakarta for Indonesia Masters that will be held on January 24-29.
