Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has highlighted the need for strengthening the role of youngsters in the Mental Revolution National Movement (GNRM) as they will continue Indonesia's leadership in the future.

"In 2023, the involvement of the younger generation in the Mental Revolution National Movement must be strengthened," he said here on Friday.

The involvement of the younger generation in the movement is essential because they are the nation's future leaders, he explained.

"GNRM needs to target youngsters because the current younger generation will continue Indonesia's leadership in the future," he said.

He added that GNRM, in 2023, must strengthen programs that target three things, namely the way people think, behave, and act.

"Thus, in 2023, programs under the Mental Revolution National Movement must build a positive mental (attitude) among the younger generation through various activities, such as the tree-planting movement," he said.

Youngsters should also be involved in promoting the campaign on using social media wisely and other programs that are aimed at improving their literacy, he added.

He noted that the Mental Revolution National Movement is encouraging the internalization of strategic values in the community, such as integrity, work ethic, and mutual cooperation.

The minister said that the internalization of those strategic values needs to take place at the level of individuals, families, social institutions, society, and state institutions.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has been tasked with carrying out coordination and synchronization as well as controlling the implementation of GNRM with program coordinators.

Effendy said that the ministry hopes that the joint movement would prompt changes in people's perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors as well as build character and make people progress-oriented.
