For the four districts, we will focus on its tourism and investment aspects, and the investment will be in the fisheries sector.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Efforts to develop tourism and investment in Papua province will focus on the four districts of Biak Numfor, Waropen, Yapen Islands, and Sarmi, according to Investment Minister and Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head Bahlil Lahadalia.
"For the four districts, we will focus on its tourism and investment aspects, and the investment will be in the fisheries sector," he informed attending the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih launch event here on Friday.
The minister said that his ministry, together with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, is seeking to develop a fertilizer factory operated by East Kalimantan-based state company Pupuk Kaltim in West Papua, with the investment value amounting to Rp20 trillion (US$1.28 billion).
In addition, investment in the gas and oil upstreaming sector, valued at Rp40–50 trillion (US$2.56–3.20 billion), will start this year.
"We will emphasize tourism, investment, and nationalism. Nevertheless, the country will be the framework for developing the people's prosperity," Lahadalia said.
Meanwhile, Biak Numfor district head Herry Ario Naap said that his region is targeting to export fisheries products such as tuna, yellowfin, bluefin, crab, shrimp, and others during the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih events, which are expected to take place until November 2023.
"We also need to convey this commitment that our Saereri region in the Cenderawasih Bay, particularly in Biak, is no longer producing chicken eggs and several other products from external sources as we now make the products on our own," Naap said.
The district head expressed the hope that Sail Teluk Cenderawasih will be successful in developing new economic epicenters for Indonesia in the Pacific region, which is the main commitment of the event.
