According to the president, Basarnas still lacks several equipment, one of which is drone rescue.
"The use of technology to speed up search and rescue is very important. Even though we already have some of the equipment, we still need more, including drone rescue," Jokowi remarked during a working meeting at the Basarnas headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.
Apart from drone rescue, the president noted that other equipment considered to be effective in helping and searching for disaster victims was the snake robot used in the United States and Japan.
Jokowi also emphasized the importance of the robot diver tool to search for victims at depths of more than one thousand meters.
"For the effectiveness of rescue and search operations for reaching depths of more than one thousand meters, I think we need a robot diver instead of an actual human, who has to dive deep. Basarnas must have it immediately," he stated.
The head of state then drew attention to a technological innovation resembling Iron Man or the jet suit that is used to search for victims at an altitude of up to 3,600 meters.
Jokowi reminded Basarnas to submit a budget to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture for the procurement of such tools.
According to the president, the use of these tools not only aids in speeding up search and rescue operations but also in protecting the Basarnas personnel.
"If Basarnas does not have the budget, they must immediately put in a request for it with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture. Please take note regarding my request," he remarked.
During the Basarnas working meeting, which also commemorated the 51st anniversary of agency, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, and Cabinet Secretary Minister Pramono Anung.
