Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Central Java provincial government and Norwegian government are exploring cooperation in sustainable energy transition.

The potential cooperation was discussed in a meeting between Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Rut Kruger Giverin and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo here on Thursday.

According to Giverin, the Central Java provincial government can start an energy transition, and to this end, Norway has several technologies that can be implemented in Central Java.

"There are many opportunities for Norwegian companies to help here or there are technologies that will be very interesting to be utilized here, such as harnessing solar energy from the ocean," she said.

Norway has extensive experience in ocean technology installation, she added.

Giverin called for this opportunity and potential to be followed up with cooperation between Norway and the Central Java provincial government.

She deemed the meeting with Pranowo an extraordinary opportunity in addition to knowing and understanding his vision and the challenges faced by Central Java.

In response, Pranowo said that the Central Java provincial government is ready to explore cooperation in energy transition, as Norway has experience in that field.

In addition to energy transition, he is also open to cooperation in environmental restoration in coastal areas and mangroves as well as in waste management.

"Norway has vast experience and technologies. We will try to develop that, and we expect that this will be good cooperation in the future," he stated.

This was not the first time that Norway has come forward to cooperate with an Indonesian province.

Norway is one of the donor countries to have offered to help with the implementation of the Sembilang Dangku landscape program in South Sumatra.

The program was intended to realize a green economy with the surrounding community participating to facilitate management in order to ensure no harm to the environment.
