Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs delivered additional logistics assistance to dozens of thousands of people affected by flooding in seven sub-districts of Demak District, Central Java Province.

The logistics aid, comprising food, clothing, and equipment for public facilities, was distributed by the ministry through its warehouse and the Social Affairs Office of Central Java.

In a statement received from the Social Affairs Ministry here on Thursday, the ministry's Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims, M. Delmi, noted that the logistics aid was meant to complement similar assistance distributed on February 8.

"We had delivered assistance earlier on February 8, and then, on Saturday (February 10), we distributed another batch of assistance," Delmi stated.

The official remarked that the additional assistance included one thousand packages each of ready-to-eat food and side dishes, one thousand packages of children's food, 200 bedsheets and blankets, 100 family kits, 100 packages each of children's and adults' clothing, and two multipurpose tents.

Delmi further revealed that the Central Java Social Affairs Office had delivered the additional aid of one thousand packages of ready-to-eat food, 30 bedsheets, 20 portable family tents, and two portable toilets.

To meet the needs for food, he stated that the Social Affairs Ministry had been coordinating with the social affairs offices of Demak and Jepara districts to open public kitchens that can produce thousands of packs of food for flood victims at 28 locations.

He noted that three public kitchens had been operating to produce five to eight thousand packs of food per day.

Delmi also remarked that the Social Affairs Ministry had been taking part in identifying measures for evacuating residents stuck at their inundated houses.

"There are still plenty of people choosing to stay at their homes, especially in the area near the Tanggulangin Bridge," he stated.
