Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has completed its Extraordinary Congress to select members of the Executive Committee, with Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir chosen as new PSSI chairperson.

"We must greatly appreciate ourselves because we have shown ourselves that Indonesia's democracy is progressing on the right path," Thohir stated after the PSSI Extraordinary Congress here Thursday (February 16).

The Extraordinary Congress took place for at least 11 hours and concluded at 9:30 p.m. local time (UTC +7) after the formation of the Executive Committee, comprising the chairperson, two deputy chairpersons, and 12 members, was completed.

The first agenda of selecting the PSSI chairperson went smoothly, as Thohir secured 64 votes, soundly defeating the runner-up, Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) La Nyalla Mattalitti, who managed to gain only 22 votes.

Meanwhile, former PSSI Secretary General Ratu Tisha Destria and Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali were selected as the two PSSI deputy chairpersons after repeat voting.
