Balige, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - The wind speed during the second round race of the 2023 F1 Powerboat (F1H2O) World Championship at Muliaraja Napitupulu Port, Lake Toba, Balige, North Sumatra, on Sunday, was predicted to be the same as in the qualifying session.

"The wind direction from the northeast (today) would be the same as yesterday's and the speed is around 5.2 to eight knots," Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati said here on Saturday (February 25).

However, she estimated that the wind can reach 10 knots from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.

"The temperature reaches around 27-28 degrees Celsius, which means that it still causes waves and they are likely to reach 0.4 meters to the maximum at 1.1 meters. These waves are not static or can change," she explained.

BMKG also forecast that Sunday's weather would be partly cloudy from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time, meaning it would be safe if there is no dynamic change in the weather.

"Although North Sumatra's weather is in the low category, it can increase to moderate. Lake Toba and its surroundings are still in the rainy season. It is predicted that rain will fall in the afternoon to evening," the BMKG Head added.

In Saturday's qualifying session, BMKG said the schedule was postponed for safety reasons because the wind speed had reached eight knots.

BMKG will continue to update the weather and wave conditions by using weather instruments, such as radars, satellites, and automatic weather stations at the racing locations.

In addition, BMKG deployed 10 personnel who would specifically monitor the clouds.

"Despite the technology, we still do so (deploy the personnel). We are preparing weather modification technology, and cooperating with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Air Force, and (smelting company) Inalum," Karnawati explained.
