Just take a walk with me around Senayan, that's also healthyJakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani revealed that the increase in the wealth value of Director General of Taxes Suryo Utomo was due to the increase in the price of his assets.
Utomo’s wealth has become a hot topic among the public lately.
"I asked Mr. Suryo what caused the increase in his wealth. It turned out to be due to (the increase in) land prices, house prices, market prices and other prices. So, don't think of it as corruption," the minister said at the “CNBC Economic Outlook 2023,” which was followed online on Tuesday.
The minister urged Utomo to explain to the public about his assets so that no one would judge him negatively.
Utomo's increasing wealth has been the subject of people's attention and scrutiny of late, following a battery assault case against D, 17, perpetrated by the son of an official from the directorate general. The perpetrator often flexed his wealth on social media.
Netizens were intrigued by the official’s wealth because his reported wealth was much higher than that of the director general. Currently, the ministry and the authorities are investigating this.
At Tuesday’s event, Indrawati expressed her censure of the extravagant and excessive lifestyle led by some state civil apparatuses, particularly in her ministry.
She said people always pay attention to the behavior of civil servants, especially those who manage state money.
"So, though civil servants buy expensive things with the salary they gain legally through hard work, like buying huge motorcycles, they do not need to bike around with that huge motorcycle. Just take a walk with me around Senayan, that's also healthy," she quipped.
