Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry will organize a short film production competition titled "Layar Indonesiana" for which registration will open from March 6 to May 1, 2023.

This program is a platform to cultivate new film talents that support the regeneration of national cinema, according to Film, Music, and Media Director at the Ministry Ahmad Mahendra.

"This is a form of real support from the government to produce globally-acknowledged films," he noted during the media gathering event at FX Sudirman here, Thursday (March 2).

The program was initiated since 2021, and over 300 film proposals are submitted every year until only the 10 best film proposals are selected.

These best proposals receive production fund facilities as well as mentoring from national and international institutions, such as Short Course from the New York Film Academy and Park Sung Ho Programmer from the Busan International Film Festival.

The competition's selection process involves curators from the cinema industry, such as the director Ifa Isfansyah, screenwriter Rahabi Mandra, and producers Rina Damayanti as well as Yulia Evina Bara.

Following this process, 10 film proposals will be chosen, and the participants submitting these proposals will attend a Film Workshop assisted by the best mentors.

Isfansyah, one of the event's curators, stated that the event is not only centered on filmmakers in the capital city but it is also open to all filmmakers from various regions in Indonesia.

"We expect that the Layar Indonesiana can be the road for talented filmmakers to emerge to the surface and also become the beginning of the birth of great works in the future," he affirmed.
