Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that the number of spectators of the 2023 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) Indonesian Round surpassed the achievement in 2022, clocking a new record.

The international racing event was held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, on March 3-5, 2023.

"During the three day-event, the 2023 WSBK was attended by 59,251 spectators,” the minister noted in a statement on Monday.

This figure surpassed the achievement of 51,693 spectators recorded during the implementation of the 2022 WSBK, he noted.

Thus, the number of spectators in 2023 had increased by 14.62 percent as compared to that during the 2022 WSBK.

Uno expects that the increasing number of spectators would be able to directly and indirectly have a positive impact on revival of the local economy.

The minister also expressed optimism that implementation of the racing event would be able to bolster the opening of new employment opportunities, especially in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, which is targeted to create 4.4 million new jobs by 2024.

His side will conduct further studies on the impacts of the implementation of the 2023 WSBK on the community as an input for hosting the next world-class racing events, such as Motocross Grand Prix (MXGP) and MotoGP, he remarked.

NTB Province will again serve as the host of the racing events. MXGP is scheduled to be held in two rounds: MXGP Samota-Sumbawa on June 24-25, 2023, as well as MXGP Lombok on July 1-2, 2023.

Meanwhile, the MotoGP will be held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit on October 13-15, 2023.

President Director of state-run racing promotor Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Priandhi Satria lauded all stakeholders, who had supported the success of the implementation of the 2023 WSBK.

"Dorna (Sport) was very happy (and) appreciated (our efforts as the host). In addition, most of the cultural performance on this day (the final race day on March 5) was broadcast live before the race started," he remarked.

Earlier, Uno affirmed that the implementation of 2023 WSBK generated an economic value of about Rp5 trillion and had opened numerous job opportunities.

In the second race of the 2023 MOTUL FIM WSBK Indonesian Round, Alvaro Bautista from Ducati Aruba.it won the first place followed by Pata Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlolu and Team Honda Racing Corporation’s (HRC’s) Xavi Vierge.
