Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, during the Indonesia Country Session at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2023, urged Indian businessmen to collaborate and cooperate with Indonesian partners to improve mutually beneficial trade.

The minister believes that the two countries can profit from improving trade partnership and collaboration between businessmen, he noted in a written statement on Wednesday.

Country Session is a special session for discussion on cooperation potential and opportunity with participant countries in the CII Partnership Summit held in New Delhi, India, Tuesday, at local time.

Indonesia's special session was opened by Indonesian Ambassador to India Ina H. Krisnamurti.

This session featured material on the development of Indonesian trade negotiation and export improvement strategy.

This material was delivered by two officials of the Trade Ministry: International Trade Negotiation Director General Bris Witjaksono and National Export Development Director General Didi Sumedi.

Hasan's participation in the summit was part of his work visit to India on March 13-14, 2023, to support Indonesia's prime commodity export.

In addition to delivering a key speech at the summit, he was scheduled to meet with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to follow up on Indonesian President Joko Widodo's instruction to explore bilateral trade negotiations with India.

India ranks fifth as Indonesia's strategic trading partner, with total trade between the two countries in 2022 having reached US$32.71 billion, or increased by 55.68 percent, from US$21.01 billion in the previous year.

In 2022, Indonesia's export to India was recorded at US$23.38 billion, while its import from India was pegged at US$9.33 billion. Thus, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of US$14.05 billion.
