Jakarta (ANTARA) - An official from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection has underlined the importance of protecting children's mental health by providing them with information that is appropriate and safe for their age.

Appropriate information for children includes information that matches their age and intelligence and can protect their mental health, Endah Sri Rejeki explained in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Moreover, information shared with children must not involve elements of pornography, violence, and sadism, must not use children as exploitation material, have positive nuance, and have a positive impact on children’s development, she added.

Based on Article 56 (1) of the Child Protection Law, the government needs to make an effort and help children in accessing verbal or written information that suits their age and development, Rejeki noted.

In relation to this, since 2016, the ministry has developed Child-Friendly Information Centers (PISAs) and currently, it is collaborating with the National Library to provide child-appropriate information (ILA).

PISA is said to be one of the forms of the state's action to ensure that children receive healthy and safe information.

The ministry has so far established partnerships with 79 PISA managers who have been certified as child friendly.

They are managers of libraries and reading parks as well as librarians spread across Indonesia starting from the level of province, district, city, to village.

The ministry is supporting them through the provision of materials for the development of PISA so that the reading centers that they manage can be made more safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for children, Rejeki informed.

The materials cover the Children's Rights Convention, children's psychosocial development, tips and tricks on using media with children, and therapeutic communication skills, she said.
