Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has invited potential domestic investors to increase and strengthen investment in plantation downstreaming through Regional Investment Forums (RIFs).

An RIF was held with the theme of “Plantation Downstreaming Investment Improvement” in Medan, North Sumatra, on Wednesday, with a focus on prospective domestic investors.

"Currently, investing is not difficult. Everything can be accessed through the Indonesia Online Single Submission (OSS) application," Investment Promotion Deputy at the ministry, Nurul Ichwan, said in a statement released on Thursday.

The investment opportunity is being offered to domestic investors since foreign investors who decide to invest in the sector will need parties to cooperate with, he explained.

"We will proudly introduce local investors for collaboration with foreign parties," he said.

Meanwhile, economy and development assistant at the Medan Regional Secretariat, Agus Suryono, said that the investment opportunities in North Sumatra, as one of the plantation centers in Indonesia, cover palm oil, rubber, and tobacco.

He further informed that the value of plantation commodities reached Rp577 trillion or US$37 billion, and people's business credit (KUR) allocation in the plantation sector was recorded at Rp20.37 trillion or US$1.32 billion.

Thus, North Sumatra requires investment to drive the growth of the regional economy.

"Through this forum, we expect that we can encourage an increase in investment in the plantation sector," Suryono said.

"Investment is expected to be able to increase production capacity, added value, and work opportunities for the people," he added.

The RIF is a platform for regional governments for promoting investment potentials and opportunities in their regions.

It also aims to open a path for investors to get to know the potential of regions and directly interact with the related stakeholders.
