Jakarta (ANTARA) - All new toll roads in the new capital (IKN), Nusantara, will implement a contactless and cashless transaction system, or multi-lane free flow (MLFF), the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) has revealed.

"All new toll roads (in IKN) will use MLFF," BPJT head Danang Parikesit said at a seminar on "Utilization of the Reliability of Electronic Data on Vehicle Ownership for Law Enforcement in MLFF Implementation" here on Monday.

BPJT, under the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, has proposed to the minister that the MLFF system be applied on the Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road.

"One of the sections that we proposed (for MLFF) to the PUPR Minister is the Balikpapan - Samarinda Toll Road," Parikesit informed.

According to him, MLFF application on several toll roads aims to welcome digitalization at IKN.

Earlier, BPJT selected six toll roads that will be tested with the MLFF. They comprise the Jagorawi, Jakarta-Cikampek, Inner Ring Road, Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR), Ulujami-Pondok Aren-Serpong, Bali-Mandara, and the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll roads.

BPJT plans to start the transition trial for MLFF from June 1, 2023, on the Bali toll road.

Parikesit said that the trial will be carried out in stages, in which, during the transition trial period, toll road users will be able to transact through the MLFF system using an app without having to pass through toll booths.

However, toll booths for conventional cashless transactions will remain operational.

With the adoption of MLFF, transactions at toll roads are expected to become faster because drivers will no longer need to stop to tap their e-money card, which means vehicle queues at toll gates will also reduce.

In addition, MLFF is expected to make toll collection operational costs more efficient.

The Bali Mandara Toll Road was selected as the first venue for the MLFF trial considering that it is still not too congested, which makes it easier for operators to supervise.
