Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cantas application for contactless, cashless toll transactions or multi-lane free flow (MLFF) will be launched during MLFF’s first trial on Bali Mandara Toll Road, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister said.

"The Cantas application will be launched during the MLFF trial in Bali in the near future," Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The entire MLFF system will be tested in Bali first, he disclosed.

"We need to test the standard operating procedure (SOP) first," he added.

Hadimuljono said that his ministry is ready to conduct a trial for MLFF on Bali Mandara Toll Road in June this year.

Earlier, the PUPR Ministry explained the reason behind choosing Bali Mandara Toll Road as the first toll road for the trial of MLFF this year.

Among the considerations were the geographical conditions in Bali, which is located on an island. Therefore, the flow of vehicular traffic can be controlled more easily, said.

The PUPR Ministry will later evaluate the MLFF trial on Bali Mandara Toll Road before expanding the trial to other toll roads, he revealed.

The MLFF trial will be carried out in stages. During the trial and transition period, toll road users will be able to carry out transactions through the MLFF system using the app without needing to cross the toll bar.

However, the toll gate for conventional non-cash transactions will continue to operate. The PUPR Ministry will start the program by eliminating one portal at one toll gate for MLFF, while the other gate portals will still be used for non-cash transactions with electronic cards.

Hadimuljono said that with MLFF, toll transactions will be faster because users will no longer need to stop to attach their electronic cards, which can cause queues at toll gates. MLFF will make toll collection operational costs more efficient, he added.
