The 10th World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is scheduled to take place from May 18–25, 2024.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said on Wednesday that the Tunisian government and a water association from Portugal are willing to attend the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May 2024.

"They (Portugal and Tunisia) are willing to attend. I have conveyed the invitation directly to the president, Insya Allah (God willing) Tunisia (will attend)," he informed in Bekasi, West Java.

He noted that Indonesia and Tunisia have enjoyed special relations since the time of Indonesia's first president Soekarno.

"Bung Karno (Soekarno's nickname) donated money for Tunisia's independence in 1957. The first president of Indonesia paid a visit there. Indonesia is special for Tunisia. I was welcomed like I was a president when I visited Tunisia," he said.

In addition to Soekarno, Indonesia's fifth president Megawati Soekarnoputri and sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have also visited the country.

"The Tunisian president himself has never been to Indonesia. Hopefully, the Tunisian president will attend the World Water Forum. Likewise, with Portugal, we also met with a water association there; I invited them and they are willing to attend the World Water Forum," he informed.

The 10th World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is scheduled to take place from May 18–25, 2024.

At the forum, Indonesia and other member countries of the World Water Council will seek mechanisms and approaches to tackle issues related to water.

The forum will feature discussions on three processes, namely thematic, political, and regional.

The thematic process will cover six sub-themes: water security and prosperity; water for humans and nature; disaster risk reduction and management; governance, cooperation, and hydro-diplomacy; sustainable water finance; and knowledge and innovation.

The regional process will cover four regions, namely the Mediterranean, the Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and Africa.

Meanwhile, the political process will comprise meetings of heads of state, ministers, parliaments, local authorities, and basin authorities.
