Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the readiness of national roads across Indonesia reached 94.2 percent ahead of the 2024 Eid al-Fitr.

"Our national (non-toll) roads are 47,603 kilometers long, with 94.2 percent stability," he remarked at the 2024 Eid al-Fitr Homecoming Preparation Working Meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday.

In addition, the national road sections on Java Island that are ready for use are 6,500 kilometers long, with a stability of 97.23 percent, he noted.

Repairs on national roads has also been conducted, including post-flood handling on national roads in Demak, Karanganyar Sub-district, in early February and March 2024 along 1.8 kilometers, on four lanes of the Semarang-Demak road, including repairing road markings and medians.

Moreover, the ministry succeeded in opening and cleaning the Sukabumi-Bogor national road that was earlier blocked by landslides, he remarked.

Hadimuljono then outlined that in Bali, the national road sections that are ready for use reached 589.6 kilometers long, with a stability condition of 99.55 percent.

In Sumatra, the national road sections, spanning 13,417.5 kilometers long, are ready for use, with a stability condition of 95.15 percent.

In Kalimantan, the national road sections that are ready for use are 8,036.3 kilometers long, with a stability condition of 92.27 percent, followed by Sulawesi, with 8,794 kilometers of ready-for-use road, with 95.82 percent of it being in good condition.

"Similar to previous years, our task is to prepare land transportation infrastructure in the form of roads and bridges for Eid homecoming and the return flow," the minister remarked.

Hadimuljono said his side will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation; the National Police Traffic Corps; Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG); Toll Road Business Entities (BUJT); and other related ministries/state institutions (K/L) to anticipate an increase in passengers ahead of the Eid homecoming.
