Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy urged operators of rest areas to provide adequate facilities for mothers and children during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr homecoming.

Effendy emphasized that facilities, whose availability should be assured at rest areas, comprise children's playground and lactation room, which will ensure greater comfort for Eid travelers.

"I urge operators (to ensure) children's playground and lactation rooms for breastfeeding mothers are available at rest areas because it will greatly help those vulnerable," Effendy noted, as per his statement received here on Tuesday.

The coordinating minister's remarks, according to the statement, were conveyed during his visit to Rest Area KM 88B in Cipularang Toll Road, West Java, which already has adequate facilities for mothers and children.

Apart from public facilities, he pointed out that travelers' conduct also plays a role in realizing a comfortable Eid al-Fitr homecoming journey.

Effendy urged travelers to make thorough preparations for their travel, ensure their homes are secured before departure, and be considerate to other travelers who use facilities at rest areas.

"We hope residents who will travel (during the Eid exodus) will prepare their travel thoroughly. It is better for them if they also depart earlier," the coordinating minister remarked.

Meanwhile, the coordinating ministry's Deputy IV, Warsito, urged residents to optimize the free Eid al-Fitr travel program to help reduce traffic congestion and road accidents during the homecoming period.

"(Residents are) expected to travel to their hometowns by public transport, either paid by personal expense or free of charge (by joining free travel programs)," he said.

The ministry's deputy highlighted various public and private institutions offering free Eid travel programs for residents seeking to return to their hometowns.

He pointed out that while the State-owned Enterprises Ministry provided free travel for 80 thousand travelers this year, the Transportation Ministry provided 40 thousand.
