Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Papua currently has the Papua Young Creative Hub (PYCH) that is expected to become a facility for youngsters in the region to develop their potential.

PYCH's building is located at the new road heading toward Youtefa Market, Kotaraja, Jayapura, and it is planned to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.

The building is complemented with various supporting facilities that can be used by local youngsters. It is complemented with the main building, dorm, open space, sports field, utility building, parking lot, and guard post.

PYCH is under the supervision of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), and its building was constructed atop 15 thousand square meters of land.

The traditional houses of the people of Jayapura City and Wamena, namely the Honai rooftop and Kariwari rooftop, are used as a template for the design of the building.

Thus, in addition to having facilities to support Papuan youngsters’ interest, talent, and creativity, PYCH's building also has a cultural design.

PYCH has facilities to support the development of Papuan youth in various fields. These include culinary, hospitality, research, technology, entrepreneurship, creative industry, digital, education and literacy, health, beauty, culture, and language.

General Coordinator of Inspiring Papuan Youngsters (PMI) Gracia Josaphat Jobel Mambrasar, or Billy, stated that PYCH is complemented with various facilities to support youngsters' activities. These include entrepreneurship, farming, content creation, as well as standup comedy.

PYCH managers allow youngsters keen on improving their knowledge based on their interest to register themselves and fill the provided form.

Currently, 12,232 people have joined and pursue various entrepreneurial fields.

"Anyone can join because by joining, the business that they run is expected to develop, and if they experience an issue, they will be assisted in figuring the solution to handle it," Billy stated.

He noted that PYCH's building was constructed after youngsters from Papua met with the president some time ago.

Several modules have already been prepared by PYCH managers.

Participants are urged to not harbor concerns if the products that they create will not sell in the market, as they will be assisted.

Out of the 12 thousand members, most are engaged in the field of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), animal farming, fishery, and agriculture.

Specifically for MSMEs, within the PMI, there are around 1,300 units that generally conduct their business in culinary and handcraft.

According to Billy, PYCH has an online shop, so youngsters need not be apprehensive about marketing since the opportunity is still open wide.

Laying hens entrepreneurs

Maria Fransisca Tambingon, 2014 Miss Indonesia finalist and PYCH member, is an entrepreneur, who sells chicken eggs.

She noted that the business managed to earn up to tens of millions of Rupiah per month. She also currently has around four thousand laying hens.

The potential for farming, specifically for laying hens, is still wide open that has made Tambingon determined to boost her production and empower more people in her business.

In fact, she is keen to motivate Papuan youngsters, so that they are willing to delve into farming while developing their existing potential in PMI.

Brigitta Hisage, whose farming business continues to grow after joining PMI, also echoed this sentiment.

Hisage currently only has one thousand laying hens, but the business will be developed until the figure reaches five thousand hens. Hisage managed the laying hens farm located in Doyo Lama, Jayapura District.

Thus, both Hisage and Billy expect that various business opportunities in the institution can be utilized by youngsters to develop their potential.

PYCH currently develops laying hens farms at 17 locations spread across Papua, West Papua, Southwest Papua, and Highland Papua.

The professionally-managed chicken farms are spread across Manokwari, with the number of units reaching four; three in Jayapura; two each in Fak-Fak, Jayawijaya, and Biak; as well as one business unit each in Sorong, Keerom, and Nabire.

In addition to laying hens, the youngsters decided to embark on a broiler business.

The broiler farm business is available at six locations: Pegunungan, Arfak, Sorong, Teluk Bintuni, and Tambrauw having one unit each as well as Manokwari, with two units.

MSMEs space

Billy remarked that marketing members' production result is carried out through a network centered in the MSMEs space within PYCH's building in Jayapura.

The MSMEs space that exists in PYCH also serves as a place to exhibit various business products created by PMI's mentee, starting from chicken eggs to MSMEs' products.

PYCH's building can be a platform to market various products, whether they are culinary products or Papuan handicrafts.

To ensure quality, the created products will be given the PYCH label, and the marketing is conducted online by utilizing the information technology facility that it owns.

The existence of the PYCH building is projected to become the representation of Papua's economic richness, so that PYCH becomes an inseparable part of Papua.
