Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of Riau Islands has allocated a budget of Rp7 billion to work on the construction of three roads in Batam City.

“The roads' improvement project is the government’s efforts to enhance people's mobility. It also serves as proof of equitable development being distributed in various areas,” Riau Islands Governor, Ansar Ahmad, stated in Tanjungpinang, Monday.

Ahmad noted that improvement work will be conducted on three roads, with two of them being an access road from Muka Kuning to Tanjung Piayu and an access road in Tanjung Memban, with a budget value of Rp3 billion each.

Work will also be conducted on a road leading to schools in Tiban Indah, with a budget of Rp1 billion.

“The whole package of the projects is currently being auctioned and will be immediately worked on, so that Batam's people could enjoy the benefits from it,” Ahmad affirmed.

Governor Ahmad stressed that he had never discriminated against any specific region in the province. He believes that the mandate given to him, as the Riau Islands governor, means that he must seriously take into account every city and regency.

According to Ahmad, it is the government’s responsibility to pay attention to development in the entire province, including Batam. As for rural residential areas, the government is counting on information received from local communities through the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) due to limitations of the provincial government to reach there.

“Each area has been given its own share of development. We are also currently speeding up development in other regencies, such as Lingga, Natuna, and Anambas Islands,” Ahmad concluded.
