Acting Chief of Bali BPBD I Made Rentin stated here on Tuesday that residents should take mitigation measures to minimize the impact of drought and other disasters that can occur during the peak of the dry season.
He advised residents to find alternative water sources and fill water storage systems to deal with possible declining water supplies during the peak of the dry season.
He also recommended residents to save water while conducting household activities and agricultural businesses and not take actions that increase the risk of fires.
Rentin said his side has taken steps to deal with the drought that is feared to occur during the June-July period by optimizing existing water resources.
"We focus on strengthening the irrigation (water channel) system and water infrastructure and encourage the adoption of environment-friendly and efficient technology in water utilization," he remarked.
However, he said, until now, landslides are still the most prevalent form of disaster to hit Bali.
The Bali BPBD reported that landslides constituted 24 out of the 109 occurrences in Bali during the period between February 25 to March 25.
Based on the forecast data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Bali may still experience rains with strong winds, although the intensity is lighter.
"Therefore, the public is urged to remain vigilant against risks, such as puddles on roads, fallen trees, and landslides," Rentin stated.
Bali will enter the transition period from low rainfall to the dry season in April 2023.
"BMKG's data shows that Bali will potentially face the peak of the dry season in almost all regions in the province from June to July 2023," he remarked.
