Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kemenkominfo) provided education on digital literacy to eight thousand State Civil Apparatuses (ASNs) in the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry (Kemendikbudristek) in order to improve these ASNs' digital skills.

Education, Culture, Research and Technology Minister Anwar Makarim, through a statement, on Thursday, noted that digital literacy for ASNs is expected to improve their competencies in using digital technology in providing public services.

"Intensive digital literacy provision integrated with the Merdeka Belajar program is expected to be able to improve the ASNs' competency or skills," he remarked.

The digital literacy class for ASNs aligns with the National Digital Literacy Index Survey conducted by Kemenkominfo.

In a report created in collaboration with the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in 2022, it stated that Indonesia's digital literacy score index was recorded at 3.54 out of 5.00.

This shows that the digital literacy rate in Indonesia is still in the "medium" category.

In order to ensure that Indonesians' digital literacy rate reached the "good" category, digital literacy activities, including for ASNs, continue to be conducted to expedite digital transformation, specifically in the government.

Kemenkominfo's Informatics Empowerment Director, Boni Pudjianto, expects that through this iteration of digital literacy class, ASNs can provide optimal public service through technology while maintaining neutral stance in the digital space.

Moreover, Pudjianto stated that this neutral stance should be maintained by ASN, given that Indonesia is preparing itself as a country is entering its election year.

This action is taken with the intent of ensuring that service to the public is carried out optimally without being influenced by political viewpoints.

Digital literacy was provided in a hybrid format at Hotel Santika Bogor, West Java, until March 30, 2023.

ASNs within Kemendikbudristek are educated to increase their competency to gain a better understanding of the four pillars of digital literacy: Digital Culture, Digital Ethics, Digital Skills, and Digital Security.
