Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Central Java government, along with the military and police, has made preparations to provide a sense of security to and make a good impression on travelers participating in the Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri exodus.

"The regional government is anticipating traffic jam points, rest areas, market areas that cover the road spaces, and U-turns," Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said after the Provincial Leaders’ Coordination Forum here on Friday.

The Central Java Regional Police will prepare 254 posts comprising integrated posts, service posts, and security posts with the involvement of 20,339 joint personnel, he informed.

According to him, a 45.8 percent increase has been predicted in the number of travelers headed to Central Java during the Eid exodus flow, with the number of vehicles expected to reach 1.72 million.

"The (province's) police chief has reported that the crime rate has increased. So, we must be careful; let's talk about kindness during the month of Ramadan. Let's prepare this homecoming safely and (make it) memorable,” Pranowo said.

Another concern ahead of the Eid exodus is road infrastructure readiness, which is still being accelerated amid the extreme weather that has been forecast to last until May by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"We will combine our cohesiveness by creating a good plan. We ask for support from the regional legislative council (DPRD), Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), the district attorney, and the commander of the regional military," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of food availability. Based on state-owned logistics company Bulog's data, stocks of rice and cooking oil are safe, at 14,500 tons and 102 tons, respectively.

"We ask to check (the food supply) to maintain food security," he said.

The governor also advised district and city governments to remain active in monitoring preparations ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
