The first strategy involves preparing national preparedness, the second is implementing counter-radicalization, and the third is executing deradicalization.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Police Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel has outlined three policies and strategies that will be carried out to mitigate terrorism.

"The first strategy involves preparing national preparedness, the second is implementing counter-radicalization, and the third is executing deradicalization," he said.

These strategies will be implemented by collaborating with all government institutions, both domestic and foreign, he informed after his inauguration as the BNPT head by President Joko Widodo at Istana Negara here on Monday.

Terrorism mitigation is also being undertaken through prevention by prioritizing education and prosperity.

Law enforcement against terrorism will also be carried out, but only as a last resort or ultimum remedium.

In addition to the three strategies, President Joko Widodo has advised BNPT to optimize deradicalization activities for those who once faced legal troubles in connection with radicalism and terrorism cases.

Dahniel on Monday took over as the head of the BNPT in place of Police Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar, who is entering his retirement period.

Born in Bogor, West Java, on August 14, 1966, Dahniel graduated from the Police Academy with the best grade in 1988. He has experience in the field of criminal investigation.

He served as the chief of North Jakarta Metro Resort Police (Polres) in 2008. In 2009, he was chosen as aide to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) during the former president's second administration period.

He was later made the deputy chief of West Java Regional Police in 2013, head of the Police College (STIK) of the Education and Training Institute (Lemdiklat) in 2014, and chief of North Sumatra Police in 2016.

He also served as the Police Academy (Akpol) head in 2017, Central Java Police chief in 2019, National Police's Intelligence and Security Agency (Baintelkam) head in 2020, and Lemdiklat head in 2021.

He was also a part of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) team that apprehended Azahari and his group in Batu, Malang, on November 9, 2005, in connection with the Bali bombings.
