Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's digital economy is projected to continue to grow due to the high Internet penetration rate of around 78 percent and the country's large population, according to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

"In 2022, 40 percent of the world's total digital transactions were made from Indonesia, namely US$77 billion. With the majority of the population entering the productive age, Indonesia's digital economy will continue to grow," he said on Wednesday.

Hartarto made the statement virtually at the launch of the East Ventures Digital Competitiveness Index (EV-DCI) 2023: Digital Justice for All Indonesian People report in Jakarta.

According to him, synergy and collaboration among stakeholders must be strengthened to improve digital equity for all people in Indonesia. To achieve this, the government has prepared six steps.

The first step is increasing digital accessibility by strengthening digital facilities and infrastructure to reduce disparities.

The second step is improving digital skills by conducting training in the field of digital technology.

Third, encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) transformation by supporting and strengthening the MSME ecosystem and the electronic trading ecosystem by encouraging MSMEs to upgrade and create a healthy business climate.

Fourth, expanding access to digital financial services through regulations and various policies that can push digital financial service innovation and providing optimal protection to people who use financial technology services and their ecosystem.

Fifth, increasing security and data privacy in accordance with Law Number 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection, and sixth, cooperating with private parties to build partnerships with tech companies to develop innovative solutions and accelerate the development of the digital ecosystem in Indonesia.

The minister expressed the hope that the digital economy would become inclusive, agile, and sustainable and that all Indonesian people would make the most of the growth in the digital economy.

"I hope the report of EV-DCI can be used as a reference by stakeholders to develop the digital economy in Indonesia," he added.
