Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial government began distributing food assistance to 4,427,706 beneficiary families (KPMs) in the region on Thursday and will continue to do so until April 19, 2023.

Head of the province’s Food Security and Livestock Office (DKPP) Moh Arifin Soedjayana said here on Thursday that the food assistance distribution will be undertaken as part of the government rice reserves or CBP program of the National Food Agency (NFA).

In addition to the 4.4 million KPMs, food assistance in the form of meat and eggs obtained from purebred chickens will be provided to 410,691 families at risk of stunting (KRS).

Meanwhile, at least 10 kg of rice will be given to KPM families per month from March to May this year.

For KRS families, the aid distribution will be conducted from April to June.

For the food assistance distribution, the NFA has tasked the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) with distributing food and the state postal company PT Pos Indonesia with couriering the aid to beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Head of the province's Social Affairs Office Dodo Suhendar informed that his office and the DKPP have been tasked with verifying the data of KPMs and carrying out information dissemination regarding the food aid program.

According to him, KPM families who also receive aid under the Family Hope Program (PKH) in the form of cash can also get free rice under the program.

The distribution will be prioritized for areas where extremely poor people live, he informed.

The food aid distribution, which began on Thursday, was conducted at a number of locations, including the Moh Toha Building in the Bandung district government complex.

As of Thursday, 16.76 tons of rice was reported to have been disbursed to 1,676 KPMs in Tani Mulya Village, 8.7 tons to 870 KPMs in Giri Mekar Village, and 8.3 tons to 831 KPMs in Padasuka Village.
