Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has informed that 1,597,028 tickets, or 52 percent of the total tickets for the 2023 Lebaran homecoming, have been sold as of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

"The number will still increase because sales are still ongoing," VP of public relations at KAI, Joni Martinus, said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

During the 2023 Eid transportation period, namely the period before Eid, most passengers will travel from the West (Jakarta/Bandung) to the East (Central Java/East Java), he informed.

In the period after Lebaran, most passengers will undertake travel from the East (Central Java/East Java) to the West (Jakarta/Bandung).

Meanwhile, in terms of occupancy, the top 10 most-preferred trains, in order of preference, are Airlangga Train (Senen Market-Surabaya Turi Market), Pasundan Tambahan Train (Kiaraconding-Surabaya Gubeng), Sri Tanjung Train (Lempuyangan-Ketapang), Kahuripan Train (Kiaracondong-Blitar), and Rajabasa Train (Kertapati-Tanjungkarang), with each recording 100 percent occupancy.

They further comprise Bengawan Train (Senen Market-Purwosari) with 100 percent occupancy, Probowangi Train (Surabaya Gubeng-Ketapang) with 100 percent occupancy, Bukit Selero Train (Kertapati-Lubuklinggau) with 100 percent occupancy, Tawang Alun Train (Malang Old City-Ketapang) with 89.62 percent occupancy, and Pasundan Train (Kiaracondong-Surabaya Gubeng) with 88.04 percent occupancy.

Meanwhile, based on the departure date of the most-preferred trains, the most popular dates in order of preference are April 24, 2023 (82 percent), April 25 (81 percent), and April 20 (79 percent).

KAI has expressed the hope that citizens will plan their trips well since there are still a number of train tickets available for the Eid holiday period.

"If the desired ticket is sold out, customers can choose an alternative date or take advantage of the connecting train feature in the KAI Access application, which will help provide travel options by combining train schedules that are connecting," Martinus said.
