We decided on the cancellation as a measure to follow up on the government’s concerns to ban mudik (people’s exodus, especially during the Ramadhan and Idul Fitri holiday season, red) during the 2020 Idul Fitri
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian railway company PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) on Thursday decided to cancel all train trips headed to Jakarta and Bandung as well as departing from both cities, effective from April 24.

"We decided on the cancellation as a measure to follow up on the government’s concerns to ban mudik (people’s exodus, especially during the Ramadhan and Idul Fitri holiday season, red) during the 2020 Idul Fitri," Joni Martinus, vice president of public relations of the company, remarked during a statement.

Martinus expounded that PT. KAI had gradually cancelled the trips since the past month, but as per tomorrow, a total halt will be applied at stations in Jakarta and Bandung, which during the normal period offer trips across Java.

"From March 23 up to today's decision, PT KAI has cancelled 401 trips comprising 213 long-distance trains and 188 local trains," Martinus stated, adding that passengers will get a full refund on their ticket.

PT. KAI, through contact center number 121, will reach out to passengers and offer further guidance to them on the cancellation and refund processes.

Passengers can also conduct the aforementioned through the mobile application KAI Access at least three hours prior to the departure schedule and an around 45-day wait period for the money transfer.

Furthermore, the passengers can directly process the cancellation at the station's counter by presenting the booking code, no longer than 30 days after the departure schedule, and the fee will be handed in cash immediately.

However, PT KAI is eyeing to evaluate this policy, taking into account the developing situation.

"PT KAI has sincerely apologized to all customers, whose trips are cancelled. This aims to contain the spread of COVID-19 during the mudik season," Martinus added. Related news: Online survey shows 12 percent respondents keen to embark on 'mudik'
