Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested nine individuals, including Bandung Mayor Yana Mulyana, in an operation conducted from noon to evening on Friday (April 14, 2023).

"So far, the number of individuals arrested is nine, including the mayor and several other officers of Bandung City's Transportation Office," the anti-graft body's news department head, Ali Fikri, said here on Saturday.

KPK officers seized cash as evidence during the arrests, he added.

"The KPK also seized rupiah cash as evidence, and it will be verified to the arrested individuals," he said.

Earlier, while confirming the arrest of Mulyana and the others in the KPK operation, Fikri said that the operation was connected to an ongoing investigation into a bribery case.

"It is suspected to be related to a bribery case in the procurement of CCTV installations and Internet service provider," Fikri said.

Mulyana and the others arrested in the operation have been taken to KPK Headquarters for questioning, he said, adding that the anti-graft agency will determine the status of the arrested individuals in 1x24 hours.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on Saturday met with several officials from the Bandung municipal authority and instructed them to ensure that public services remain smooth despite the arrests.

He also instructed Bandung municipal secretary Ema Sumarna to take over the decision-making process in the city, primarily for the Eid al-Fitr period.

"God Willing (public services) will not be disrupted because I have instructed Bandung municipal secretary Mr. Ema to take important decisions, particularly during the Eid al-Fitr exodus period, which requires extraordinary coordination. God Willing, it will not be disrupted," Kamil stated.
