Upon the approval of the plan, Bandung Mayor Yana Mulyana said he was grateful and expressed the hope that the cooperation would provide broad benefits to the community.
“Hopefully, the cooperation that we will establish later will provide great benefits for the community, especially in the fields that we work on together," he informed in Bandung on Friday.
He said that through the partnership, the cities of Bandung and Melbourne have agreed to cooperate in five sectors, namely smart cities, economy and trade, human resource capacity-building, child-friendly cities, and start-up companies.
Meanwhile, Rizal Khairul, chairperson of the Bandung Regional Legislative Council's Commission A , said his party supports and agrees with the cooperation that was approved by the DPRD in the plenary meeting on Thursday, (March 30, 2023).
Article 30 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Government Regulation Number 28 of 2018, in their broad outline, state that regional cooperation with local governments abroad must obtain the approval of the regional people's representative council for the process of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
"In principle, Commission A supports and approves the cooperation between Bandung and Melbourne," he remarked.
Earlier, on May 10, 2019, a draft Letter of Intent (LOL) was signed as an initial commitment to form a cooperation plan between the Bandung and Melbourne city administrations.
The step was followed by preparing the Cooperation Plan or Term of Reference and Plan of Action, which describes the aims and objectives of the cooperation and the benefits obtained.
Furthermore, the two cities signed an MoU to demonstrate their commitment to cooperation some time ago.
