Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has urged people to consistently observe the health protocols during Eid al-Fitr homecoming, following the emergence of the Arcturus COVID-19 sub-variant and an increase in infections.

"State-owned railway company PT KAI has notified passengers regarding vaccine regulation during Eid homecoming. I remind the public to be careful during homecoming considering the increase in COVID-19 cases in some countries. Do not forget to take a rest and consume vitamins," he said while issuing a press statement at Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta on Tuesday.

On the same occasion, the minister also flagged off the Bangunkarta train to Jombang, East Java, and reviewed the readiness and services of PT KAI ahead of the peak of the homecoming flow.

“Today, I participated in the discussion and reviewed the activities of PT KAI from April 14 to May 2 (2023). For me, their service was quite good. The trains, from the economy, business, and executive class, are comfortable and safe," he said.

Earlier, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir also visited Pasar Senen Station to review long-distance train services on D-4 Eid al-Fitr.

Thohir also reminded the people to complete their COVID-19 vaccination before returning home and implement the health protocols in public spaces and while using transportation.

"Besides vaccination, it is still mandatory for the public to wear masks in a public place or on public transportation. While in open space, they can take it off," he said.

According to him, all elements must prepare anticipatory measures against the Arcturus sub-variant. Therefore, the government is pursuing the completion of three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"We had been successful in fighting COVID-19. Our current condition has improved but we must continue to be vigilant by implementing the health protocols," he said.

The complete regulations regarding vaccinations for long-distance train passengers (KAJJ) have been outlined in the Circular Letters of the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Health.
