Jakarta (ANTARA) - The odd-even license plate policy, aimed at controlling traffic flow, is not being applied in Jakarta during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, on April 19-25, and will be re-enforced again starting from April 26, 2023.

"The (odd-even system) is not (enforced) yet until the holiday is over," Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated at the Pasar Senen Station, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (April 19).

The Jakarta Transportation Office, through its official Instagram account @dishubdkijakarta, also confirmed that the odd-even system will not be applied for 26 road sections in Jakarta on April 19-25, 2023.

"Related to Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri, the odd-even implementation on 26 roads will be stopped on April 19-April 25, 2023," as stated on Tuesday (April 18).

The policy referred to Gubernatorial Regulation No.88 of 2019 which stipulates that the odd-even policy is not applied on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays determined by the presidential decree.

The transportation office has advised all road users to monitor the update on the odd-even implementation on its social media accounts.

"All road users are urged to observe traffic regulations. Stay tuned for the update on the odd-even system through the transportation office's social media," the office stated.

Earlier, on Monday (April 17), the Greater Jakarta Police's Traffic Director, Senior Commissioner Latif Usma, also confirmed that no odd-even policy will be enforced on April 19-25, 2023.

"When the Eid holiday starts, the odd-even system will not be applied in the city," he said.

Meanwhile, Eid exodus travelers were advised to observe the odd-even policy that might be implemented based on the situation on the field.

Head of the National Police's Traffic Corps, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudhi, urged exodus travelers using private vehicles to follow the rules while travelling by bearing in mind their license plate number when venturing out on even or odd dates.

"Please watch the car you want to use. If it is an even license number, use it on an even day," he emphasized on Wednesday.
