Jakarta (ANTARA) - The message of peace was the big theme during the khatib’s sermon of the Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri at the Istiqlal Mosque.

"Diversity is not to be compared nor is it to discriminate against one another because fasting is to train the body (lahiriyah) and the soul (insaniyah) sensitivity," the khatib, rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Asep Saepudin Jahar, stated at the Istiqlal Mosque here on Saturday.

The sermon was themed "Eid al-Fitr: Momentum to Spread Forgiveness for Ummah’s Harmony”.

The sermon on insaniyah means to provide happiness for others based on the principles of harmony and togetherness, even though they differ in beliefs, views, or social identity.

"Ramadan fasting becomes a spiritual education process to forge us into pious and peace-loving Muslims. It starts with forgiveness because those are the characteristics of a wise person," Jahar remarked.

According to Jahar, Eid al-Fitr reminds that every human being needs to remember to maintain harmony regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, and group.

For this reason, every human being is required to be at the forefront in building a harmonious and tolerant life.

He said despite the differences, human beings need to understand each other to maintain diversity.

Jahar said there are three teachings of the Prophet Rasulullah SAW to maintain harmony and peace between people.

"First, you give to the one who never gave you. Second, forgive people who have wronged you, and third, connect with relatives who cut relationship with you," he stated.

The Eid prayer at the Istiqlal mosque on Saturday was attended by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, former vice president Jusuf Kalla, former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan, several ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet, and ambassadors from several countries.
