Jakarta (ANTARA) - The operational area (Daop) 1 of state-owned railway company PT KAI reported on Monday that 40,000 travelers were returning from their hometowns.

"Starting this Monday, the number of passengers arriving in the Jakarta Daop 1 area has increased. In total, today, there are around 40,000 passengers arriving," said Eva Chairunisa, Head of Public Relations of PT KAI Daop 1, in a statement received here on Monday.

According to Chairunisa, this number has doubled from the normal condition. Specifically for Gambir Station in Jakarta, based on the latest data as of 6.15 a.m. local time, some 14,337 passengers had arrived on Monday.

She stated that Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Cirebon, and Surabaya Pasar Turi stations were the top five favored by passengers.

On D+2 of Eid, the number of passengers departing from Gambir Station to their hometowns is still high, reaching 13,683, with departing passenger occupancy recorded at 76 percent.

Chairunisa forecast that the peak of the homecoming return flow to Daop 1 Jakarta will occur on April 25-26 and April 30-May 1, 2023.

"On April 25-26, around 15,000 travelers will be returning, but it is possible that on April 30 to May 1, there will be another peak of the return flow, because now, there are 14,000 returning passengers," she remarked.

Chairunisa noted that her company has also added and improved several facilities for the safety of travelers during the 2023 Eid homecoming period.

"Daop 1 Jakarta has added a number of facilities at the station, such as waiting chairs and a children's play area. A number of toilet facilities and prayer rooms have also been updated as was done at Pasar Senen and Gambir stations," she stated.

Moreover, she remarked that Daop 1 Jakarta is also adding service and security officers to ensure the 2023 Eid homecoming can run safely and smoothly.
