The hot temperatures in Indonesia is not a heat wave, and the daily maximum temperature has started to decrease
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the phenomenon of hot temperatures recorded in Indonesia in the last few days had started to decrease.

"The hot temperatures in Indonesia is not a heat wave, and the daily maximum temperature has started to decrease. People should not panic and remain vigilant," head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati stated in Jakarta, Tuesday.

According to Karnawati, heat waves usually occur in areas located in the middle to high latitudes, in the Northern Hemisphere and in the Southern Hemisphere, and in geographical areas that are close to large land or continental or sub-continental areas.

"Indonesia's territory is located in the equatorial region, with geographical conditions of the archipelago surrounded by vast waters," Karnawati explained.

She noted that since last week until Tuesday, most countries in South Asia were still affected by heat waves.

The Meteorological Agency in Asian countries, such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, China, Thailand, and Laos, have reported hot temperatures reaching above 40 degrees Celsius that have lasted for the past few days, with new maximum temperatures recorded in their regions.

Regarding the maximum temperature spike that reached 37.2 degrees Celsius in Ciputat, South Tangerang, last week, Karnawati said it only occurred for a day, precisely on April 17, 2023.

"The high temperature has dropped, and now, the maximum temperature observed is in the range of 34-36 degrees Celsius in several locations," she pointed out.

According to Karnawati, the maximum temperature variation of 34-36 degrees Celsius in Indonesia is still within the climatological normal range as compared to previous years.

Climatologically, especially in the Jakarta area, the maximum temperatures tended to peak during the April-June period, apart from the October-November period, she noted.

Karnawati explained that based on phenomenon characteristics, the hot temperatures that occur in Indonesia are a phenomenon resulting from the apparent motion of the sun that is a normal cycle and occurs annually. Thus, hot air temperatures can also likely occur during the same period every year.
