Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II, which manages Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta) International Airport, is coordinating intensively with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to anticipate extreme weather.

"Related to (extreme) weather, we are intensively coordinating with BMKG to get updates on the latest conditions," Soetta Airport's senior manager, branch communication and legal, M. Holik Muardi, said here on Thursday.

AP II is also coordinating with airlines that are serving this year's Eid travelers for mitigating extreme weather potentials, he added.

Earlier, BMKG announced that extreme weather conditions might prevail over a number of regions during the 2023 Eid exodus period and appealed to travelers to increase vigilance and caution.

BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati said that between April 15 to April 21, 2023, heavy to intense rain has been predicted in parts of Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua.

Similar weather conditions are also likely to occur in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi or the Greater Jakarta region, as well as Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, and West Papua.

Currently, the territory of Indonesia is entering the transition period from the rainy season to the dry season.

During the transition period, Karnawati explained, weather conditions can be very dynamic, shifting from sunny to rainy or vice versa, because of wind blowing in various directions.

However, she said, in general, the weather in the period from April 15–April 21 has been forecast to be sunny in the morning, cloudy in the noon, and rainy in the afternoon or evening.

Muardi also said that the integrated service post at Terminal 1B has been activated during the Eid holiday period.

"The Soekarno-Hatta Airport also operates for 24 hours, with no less than 1,500 organic personnel, additional outsourced personnel, also personnel from the military and the police," he said.
