Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned railway company PT KAI has reported that the number of travelers departing on D+4 Eid from Gambir Station, Jakarta, remained high on account of its low train fare program for departures.

The program is being offered until May 3, 2023.

“Today (April 26), the volume of passengers departing at Gambir Station has reached 11 thousand with 38 train services (KA) operating. The public is taking advantage of the low fare program for departures until May 3," PT KAI's head of public relations for the operational area (Daop) 1 Eva Chairunisa said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The low-fare program applies to the economy to executive classes, with the lowest rates for the economy class starting from Rp150 thousand, business class at Rp280 thousand, and executive class at Rp330 thousand, she informed.

Specifically, for a train departing from Gambir Station, the executive class tickets for the Sembrani train bound for Surabaya Pasar Turi departing on April 28 are priced at Rp640 thousand, or cheaper than the normal price range of Rp800 thousand to Rp900 thousand, Chairunisa added.

Meanwhile, tickets for the Sembrani train plying the Gambir-Yogyakarta route will be sold at prices starting at Rp440 thousand the same day, Chairunisa said.

"The low-fare program during the Eid return trip aims to support the government's regulation that suggested people to avoid returning on April 24–25,” she disclosed.

As of Wednesday, at least 30 thousand passenger departures were recorded from Gambir Station and Pasar Senen, with Gambir Station serving 11 thousand travelers and 38 train services, she said. The number is still quite high compared to normal times.

The destination cities favored by travelers this year included Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Purwokerto, Kutoarjo, Semarang, Tegal, Solo, and Bandung, she added.

Moreover, she informed that the availability of Long Distance Train (KAJJ) seats to various destinations departing from Daop 1 Jakarta from April 27 to May 3 was only 173 thousand.

She urged people planning to buy low-fare tickets for the train to immediately order them using the KAI Access application, the kai.id website, or ticket sales channels affiliated with KAI.

In total, KAI reported that from April 12–26, or from D-10 to D+3 of Eid, around 550 thousand passengers departed on KAJJ from Gambir Station and Pasar Senen in the Daop 1 area of Jakarta for the Eid holiday.
