Jakarta (ANTARA) - The new capital city (IKN) Nusantara construction would continue to run as per the government's plan amid a political year approaching the 2024 general elections, Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated.

"The project will continue. It has nothing to do with the election," Hadimuljono said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Friday.

He noted that the government also continues to assure investors that the construction of IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan to replace Jakarta is still on track.

The continuation of IKN's construction is apparent from the government's efforts since the discourse was first rolled out. Despite several pros and cons, the development continues until today, wherein the physical development of several infrastructure and government offices is underway, he stressed.

"We still have faith in this development. There have been several investments with the Letter of Intent (LoI)," the minister stated.

Hadimuljono has also followed up on some investors based on coordination with the IKN Authority.

He noted that the government already has a legal basis for the IKN Law along with all derivative regulations. Hence, investors are expected to not harbor doubts about the sustainability of IKN development.

The PUPR Ministry had earlier released an official detailed spatial planning (RDTR) and land use map for IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan Province.

The map also describes the appearance of the central government core area (KIPP) in IKN, with an area of 6,600 hectares.

As of early April of 2023, the average achievement of physical development in IKN Nusantara has reached 25 percent, he stated.

He remarked that the ministry is currently building Central Government Core Areas (KIPP), such as the presidential office, presidential palace, offices for the four coordinating ministers, ministerial housing complexes, toll roads, arterial roads, dams, national axis, Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL), waste treatment installations, drinking water treatment plants, and other infrastructure.

The government is targeting that in August 2024, the commemoration ceremony for Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17 can be held at IKN Nusantara.
