The world No.2 Ginting only needed 28 minutes to seal the 21-12, 21-8 victory over the 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the final match of the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai, the UAE, on Sunday (April 30).
Ginting becomes the first Indonesian men's singles player to win the Asian title since Taufik Hidayat in 2007.
"This is definitely one of my biggest achievements. The Asian title is prestigious too. After winning this tournament, I hope I can be more confident and motivated in the next matches," he said in a statement received here on Monday.
Ginting started his senior career in 2015 and won his first title in the Korean Open in 2017.
In 2018, Ginting started his BWF World Tour season by winning the title in his homeland of the Indonesia Masters.
In the 2019 season, he managed to reach the final in five tournaments but failed to bring home any titles.
The 26-year-old shuttler won his first Olympic medal after he beat Kevin Cordon in the bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Indonesian Olympic medalist in the men's singles badminton event since Sony Dwi Kuncoro in Athens 2004.
In the next tournament, Ginting helped the Indonesian team to win the world men's team championships, the 2020 Thomas Cup.
After the Asian Badminton Championships, Ginting and other Indonesian shuttlers will head to Suzhou, China, to compete in the mixed-team championships Sudirman Cup, which is scheduled for May 14-21.
