Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) stated that its regional offices nationwide are ready to accept and process the registration of candidates for national and regional legislatures for the 2024 General Elections.

KPU Secretariat General's Deputy for Technical Support Eberta Kawima remarked that the registration of electoral candidates was taking place simultaneously nationwide from May 1.

"Our officials at the provincial- and district- and city-level KPU offices in 38 provinces and 514 cities and districts are ready for the same thing, i.e., to receive our guests (parties registering their candidates)," Kawima stated here on Monday.

He noted that not only the central KPU office, but its provincial-, district- and city-level offices had also assured the readiness of their facilities, venues, and officials that will receive registering legislator candidates.

On Sunday (April 30), the KPU announced that registration for candidates of the House of Representatives (DPR RI); province-, district-, and city-level legislatures (DPRD); and Regional Representative Council (DPD) members would take place from May 1 to May 14, 2023.

KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari stated that the registration period is set according to KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022 on 2024 General Elections Phases and Timetable.

Asy'ari noted that the registration of DPR RI candidates would be made by the political party leaders at the central KPU office in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, registration of DPRD candidates will take place at their respective regional levels. Hence, provincial DPRD candidates must register at the province-level KPU office and municipal DPRD candidates at the city-level KPU office, he explained.

He emphasized that DPD RI candidates should register at the province-level KPU office on grounds that they have fulfilled the minimum electorate support to advance to the next registration phase, as announced by the electoral commission on Saturday (April 29).
