Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate has said that Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship this year has the potential to boost regional economic resilience.

"Like the G20 Presidency, Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship is being carried out amid a challenging world situation," he noted here on Wednesday.

According to the minister, Indonesia is facing the impact of intensifying geopolitical rivalry, the influence of the Ukraine war on food and energy security and financial stability, as well as the slow post-pandemic global economic recovery.

"Regardless of that, Indonesia has strong resilience to grow above five percent (in terms of economic growth)," Plate said.

He described the current condition as an opportunity to build a positive perspective and mutual optimism in running the ASEAN chairmanship.

"Have a positive outlook for our interests as a nation. This perspective is used by Indonesia in carrying out the ASEAN chairmanship, same as last year's G20," he said.

Plate further said he expected that the 42nd ASEAN Summit will run well and be as successful as the G20 Summit last year.

"Why Mr. President chose Labuan Bajo this time? He has reasons. We must be able to maximize those reasons for our benefit," the minister added.

He said Indonesia is looking to make ASEAN resilient and a benchmark for successful cooperation that contributes to peace, stability, and regional and global welfare.

The 42nd ASEAN Summit will result in a number of documents, including statements by ASEAN leaders on strengthening institutions, the region's post-2025 vision, and plan for tackling human trafficking crimes, protection of migrant workers and families in times of crisis, health, electric vehicle ecosystem, and the development of ASEAN village networks.

Given the many statements that will come out of it, the ASEAN Summit has strategic value for Indonesia, Plate said.

During its chairmanship, Indonesia is also encouraging ASEAN to play an active role in offering ideas or solutions for the benefit of the region.
