This has been the largest case of its kind in the Philippines.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police participated in a raid conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) against an international scam syndicate in the Philippines.
Head of the police's international relations division, Inspector General Krishna Murti, informed that last Thursday (May 5, 2023) local time, the police attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines joined a PNP operation to rescue 1,000 foreigners who fell victim to human trafficking.
Of the 1,000 people, there were 154 Indonesian nationals, he said, adding that nine of them have been named as witnesses in the case, while two have been named suspects for violating Philippine laws.
"We are now coordinating the process with the local police," he informed, according to a statement issued here on Monday.
The suspects originated from China, the Philippines, and other countries, such as Indonesia, Murti said.
The raid took place at Clark Sun Valley Hub Corporation complex in Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Mabalacat, Pampanga Province, the Philippines, he added.
The embassy's police attaché, Senior Commissioner Retno Prihawati, took part in the local police operation to uncover the international scam syndicate, the inspector general added.
To support the investigation, his side will coordinate with the Indonesian Police's Criminal Investigation Agency, which will send investigators to Manila, Murti said.
"We are now communicating this case with the police's Criminal Investigation Agency, who will send an investigation team to Manila soon," the police division head informed.
He said that his side will coordinate with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to repatriate the remaining Indonesian nationals.
