Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, was not just a ceremonial meeting but can also boost economic growth in Indonesia and the ASEAN region, Presidential Staff (KSP) Chief, Moeldoko, stated.

Especially in Indonesia, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is keen that the summit has a multiplier effect on the economy in the tourism; transportation; and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sectors, he affirmed.

"This is actually an implied message from the president. Economic growth should not only occur in Bali or Labuan Bajo but in other regions as well, especially after the pandemic," he remarked in a statement received here, Thursday.

Moeldoko noted that Indonesia's ability to maintain economic growth above five percent, demographic bonuses, and regional stability could become strong assets for the country in maintaining ASEAN as the world's growth center.

According to the KSP chief, Indonesia also has the responsibility of maintaining a conducive regional situation, especially amid the tension in the South China Sea, political crisis in Myanmar, and emergence of the effects of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

"In the future, the challenges will be hard. Hence, ASEAN must strengthen its economic integration, inclusive cooperation, and the architecture of health, food, energy, and financial stability," he emphasized.
