The summit was held in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), from May 9–11, 2023.
"This program is in line with the SOEs Ministry's commitment to one of the pillars of development, namely the environment," Thohir said in an official statement received here on Friday.
He informed that his ministry mobilized more than 50 SOEs Millennials from Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Pertamina, Mandiri, Telkomsel, Pegadaian, Pelindo, HIN, and PELNI, to participate in supporting the SOEs Youth Environmental Movement at Binongko Beach, Labuan Bajo, on Thursday.
The SOEs Millennials and PlusTik collected plastic waste around the beach as a form of concern for the environment. They also collected trash from Waecicu Beach, Kukusan Island, Waterfront Marina, and Pede Beach, he added.
Thohir informed that the amount of plastic waste collected between May 7 and 11 weighed 2.6 tons, which was then processed into useful goods such as fishing boats, paving blocks, and cell phone stands.
The results of the processing will also be displayed at the SOEs House Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Hub booth at Waterfront City, Labuan Bajo, from May 9–13.
The minister said cleaning up trash around the beach was a part of environmental activities in the series of SOEs House SME’s Hub events, which were included as side activities of the ASEAN Summit.
He further said he hopes that the collaboration between the Ministry of SOEs and PlusTik would trigger awareness among the younger generation about the importance of protecting the environment.
He emphasized that this is in line with the SOEs' commitment to promoting sustainable development or sustainable development goals (SDGs) in providing real benefits for the environment.
“We are also paying attention to the latest environmental issues around the community. Thus, our environmental programs can overcome existing environmental problems,” he remarked.
