Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is pursuing the completion of 58 national strategic projects (PSNs) valued at IDR 420 trillion (around US$28 billion) by the end of 2024, according to the Committee for Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Delivery (KPPIP).

The head of KPPIP Wahyu Utomo said that 156 projects valued at IDR 1,080 trillion (around US$72 billion) have been completed.

"Hence, in this year and next year, we expect that there will be 58 more finished projects, with a value of about IDR 420 trillion," he said during an event to commemorate eight years of the PSN Program here on Sunday.

Utomo disclosed that the program was outlined by President Joko Widodo in Presidential Regulation Number 3 of 2016.

The duty of the committee, which is led by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, is to supervise and assist with the progress of priority infrastructures in Indonesia, he mentioned.

He mentioned that KPPIP serves as a point of contact to pursue coordination in the debottlenecking efforts, so as to ensure progress of infrastructure development in key sectors listed in the PSN and Priority Program, ranging from transportation, energy, drinking water, sanitation, to telecommunications .

He affirmed that the efforts to establish better economic growth and public welfare involve many stakeholders, such as government, private entities, as well as the general public.

"The government will consistently try to meet Mr President's directive, that there will be no more projects (left behind) in 2024. Of course this would need support from everyone," Utomo remarked.

Through the event they hosted from May to October 2023, the committee aims to garner interest from the public in the PSN program, and raise people's awareness of the program's significance in pursuing sustainable life and national economy, he elaborated.

One of the activities in the event included a leisure walk on Sunday, which was participated by around 3,000 people, who seemed enthusiastic to join that leisurely activity, he said.

"We hope that this activity can show us all that PSNs must be consistently pursued and expedited, so we can establish a sustainable economy oriented towards social justice and welfare, to make Golden Indonesia 2045 come true," he concluded.
