"At the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will also have a bilateral meeting with the President of South Korea, including discussion on visa-free entry for our people," he noted in Jakarta on Monday.
Sulistiyanto made this statement after attending a meeting between President Jokowi and a delegation of South Korean businessmen and members of parliament to discuss trade and investment issues between the two countries at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
"The visa-free entry is an agenda that will be discussed at a high level because 112 countries have already been allowed visa-free entry, and Indonesia has not been included. I will try my best to pursue it," he stated.
Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi confirmed that President Jokowi was invited to the G7 Summit to be held in Hiroshima, Japan, on May 21, 2023.
Indonesia was invited to the meeting of developed countries as the country became the chair of ASEAN this year.
During the president's meeting with the South Korean delegation, Sulistiyanto also noted that in March 2023, he had brought a delegation comprising the South Korean infrastructure minister along with 57 construction and technology entrepreneurs.
He said that they directly observed the development of the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan and the construction of a dam there by K-water from South Korea.
"According to them, the progress achieved was 15-20 percent, and they were already interested," the ambassador noted.
In addition, he remarked that the South Korean delegation would participate in the "Maekyung Indonesia Forum on the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and Korea."
The event will be held on May 16, 2023, as a form of collaboration among Maekyung Media, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra).
The forum is planned to be opened by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.
Private sector leaders from South Korea who attended the meeting with President Jokowi include President of Samsung Electronics Park Seung Hee, President of Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ Lee Youngtack, and President of LG Energy Solution Lee Bang Soo.
