Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, in a press statement on Monday, lauded an Indonesian film that recently entered and won an award at the 2023 International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA).

The film Jiwa Jagad Jawi won the Gold Award at the festival. Uno said that the award served to promote tourism and the creative economy in Indonesia, which can be further globalized.

The film's achievement is expected to drive an improvement in Indonesia's tourism and creative economy sector and also contribute to foreign exchange to the country.

"The target is to create 4.4 million new jobs in 2024," the minister informed.

Meanwhile, Marketing Deputy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Ni Made Ayu Marthini said she was proud of the film's achievement.

"I expect that this award can encourage the improvement of Indonesia's image on the global stage and increase international tourist visits to reach this year's target of 8.5 million visits," she added.

The film Jiwa Jagad Jawi, produced by Wonderful Indonesia and directed by Ivan Handoyo, won the Gold Award in the “Tourism Destination - Regional, International” category.

The film tells the story of the stages of life shown in Borobudur Temple's reliefs as a universal book on human life.

The reliefs outline the guidelines for human life, unattached to any single religion or belief, in a journey for peace within the historical, cultural land of Java.

The International Tourism Film Festival Africa is a film award that highlights the importance of tourism promotion, both in Africa and across the world.

This year, international professionals from the tourism, marketing, and film industries served as ITFFA judges and evaluated the entries based on several criteria, including impact, creativity, voice, style, subject, narration, and target effectiveness.
