Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta acting governor, Heru Budi Hartono, has said that educators have a strategic role in preparing the nation for facing the demographic bonus in 2030.

"The next generation in the demographic bonus has the potential to become the golden generation that supports Indonesia's progress," he pointed out at a halal bihalal gathering of the National Teacher’s Association (PGRI) at Guru Indonesia Building, Tanah Abang, here on Thursday.

He said that the demographic bonus will become a common concern if only the quantity of human resources increases, but not the quality.

At the gathering themed “Establishing Friendship, Strengthening Brotherhood,” the acting governor said that he expects all educators to continue to improve the quality of education in the country.

"Hopefully, this gathering can strengthen the commitment and synergy of teachers, education staff, and related parties in improving the quality of education in Indonesia," he added.

In addition, he noted that Jakarta will seek to transform into a global economic city which will have a direct impact on global socioeconomic affairs.

He said this goal can be strengthened through quick and precise efforts for supporting Jakarta's development, which will contribute to national development.

"We believe that quality education is the main element in giving birth to a smart generation that is the driver of Indonesia's progress," Hartono said.

In addition to the acting governor, chairperson of PGRI, Unifah Rosyidi, and acting head of the Jakarta Education Office, Syaefuloh Hidayat, also attended the gathering.

Earlier, PGRI Chair Rosyidi motivated teachers to adapt to the era of digitalization, especially for education development.

"Now, we are facing ChatGPT, digitalization of education," she pointed out in Semarang on May 7, 2023.

She said that the rapid development of technology, especially in the education sector, must be balanced with the readiness of human resources (HR), namely teachers, who need to improve their quality if they do not want to be replaced.

"Teachers actually cannot be replaced, but they must increase their capacity," she added.
